English Garden Wedding With a Tropical Twist

I'd like to share a few photos from Becky and Eric's charming English Garden themed wedding we had the privilege of planning this past August (Thank you Scott from Scott Smallin Photography) . Becky and Eric are from the Chicago area, and as with many of our out of town clients, we began planning via email and phone. They wanted an intimate ceremony in a romantic setting with their children and closest family and friends followed by a private dinner reception. Becky loved the look of English Garden, but also wanted to incorporate a bit of a tropical feel. The Dunes Golf and Beach Club provided the perfect setting and Kelly at Little Shop of Flowers brought our ideas to life to translate the ceremony site into a miniature English Garden . A subtle wave and coral design on the wedding cake, the tropical print of the groomsmen's shirts and steel drum music for the ceremony and dinner reception integrated the tropical element. The outcome was truly enchanting. We loved working with Becky and Eric and wish them many more enchanted days together as husband and wife!

Children of the Bride & Groom served as their attendants.

Wrought iron cages overflowing with gorgeous flowers hung from shepherds hooks to decorate the aisle for the ceremony then were moved to the dining room to be used as centerpieces.

The Bride's son escorted her down the aisle, presented her in marriage and also acted as an attendant. When reviewing the reply he would give when asked the question, "Who gives this woman to be married to this man" without missing a beat replied "who'd want her"???

Becky's gorgeous bouquet of pink cymbidium orchids, peonies, garden and spray roses in shades of ivory and pinks. A necklace belonging to the Bride's father woven into the bouquet added a sentimental element.

I abolutely ADORED these centerpieces.

Lana & Dave's Vintage Beach Wedding

We've been promising to share highlights of some of our 2011 weddings, but got a little behind over the holidays. So without further adieu, we are delighted to begin by sharing Lana and Dave's special day with you!

When I was contacted by Lana from Pennsylvania to plan her and Dave's destination wedding I was immensely excited to be given "creative" license and to begin pulling her vision of a romantic beach wedding together turn it into a reality. Lana had already chosen a gown with a vintage feel, had colors selected for her bridesmaids and flowergirl and they knew they wanted the ceremony decorations to look like they belonged on the beach and not detract from or compete with the natural beauty of the ocean and seashore, but other than that they didn't have a clue what direction to take. I learned that they both loved antiques so I kept that in mind while developing their design. A romantic sunset ceremony with a vintage beach theme was perfect for them and I immediately knew what elements to incorporate and what vendors would be able to replicate that vision.

A second marriage for both the bride and the groom, Lana and Dave wanted a romantic ceremony on the beach near sunset for the two of them and their immediate family. The couples grown children (each had 1 daughter and 1 son) and the granddaughter of the bride would serve as the wedding party.

The adorable flower girl, granddaughter of the Bride wanted to have a bouquet like the Bride and Bridesmaids in place of a basket of petals.

The precious ring bearer (grandson of the Bride) preferred to remain on the sidelines.

It was the perfect evening and Huntington Beach State Park was the perfect spot for Lana and Dave's romantic sunset ceremony.

Soft green hues and a variety of textures gave the ceremony the organic feel the couple was looking for.

Fishnets with sugar starfish draped the arch.

Crocheted barefoot sandals perfect for beach weddings.

Lana's beautiful bouquet of roses, hydrangea, cymbidium orchids, freshia and coffee berries.

The cake table covered in a seafoam linen with vintage lace overlay and accented with starfish, fishnets, bamboo and moss continued the vintage beach theme.

Stocking Stuffers for our 4 Legged Friends

Do you have some special 4 legged family members or friends on your Christmas list this year? Making healthy, homemade treats are easy and fun and less expensive than all natural treats from the pet store. Today we made Peanut Butter Bones for the special doggies on our Christmas list. Tomorrow we'll make some treats for our feline friends and share more recipes for making tasty treats for you to bake and share.

Peanut Butter Bones

2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 Tbsp. baking powder

1 cup peanut butter (smooth)
1 cup milk

Preheat oven to 375'F. Combine flour and baking powder in a mixing bowl. Heat peanut butter and milk in a microwave safe bowl or measuring cup and heat for about 25-30 seconds. Whisk until blended, then add to dry ingredients and mix well. Place dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness and use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Bake for 20 minutes on a greased baking sheet until lightly brown. Cool on a rack, package 2-3 per treat bags, tie with a ribbon and their ready to share with man's best friend. Store any leftovers in an airtight container.

Pumpkin Dog Treats

Ingredients:

1/2 c. canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling!)
4 tbsp molasses
4 tbsp water
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 c. whole wheat flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon (optional)

Directions:

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

2. Blend all of the wet ingredients (pumpkin, molasses, vegetable oil, water) together.

3. Add the dry ingredients (wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon) and stir until a soft dough forms.

4. Scoop the dough by teaspoonfuls and roll it into balls with your hands (hint: wet hands work best). Drop the balls onto a cookie sheet and flatten them with a fork.

5. Bake until hard (approximately 25 min.). For crisper biscuits, turn off the oven and let them cool in the oven over night.

Versatile Cheese Ball Recipe

Here's another yummy recipe you might want to try for your next party or family get together. It is easily adapted to suit your taste. Be creative and add your own twist to either recipe, have fun and ENJOY!

Pineapple Pecan Cheese Ball

2 ~ 8oz blocks of cream cheese (room temperature)
1 ~ 8oz can crushed pineapple (drained)
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup finely chopped bell pepper (a combination of red and green is nice for Christmas)
2 Tablespoons minced onion
1 cup chopped pecans (1/2 cup mixed into the cream cheese, 1/2 cup for the outside of the cheese ball)

Mix together the above ingredients and shape into a ball or log. Roll in the chopped pecans, cover and refrigerate until chilled thoroughly. Serve with assorted crackers, toast points, celery sticks or pita chips.

Dessert Cheese Ball

2 ~ 8oz blocks of cream cheese (room temperature)
1 ~ 8oz can crushed pineapple (drained)
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 Tablespoons Kraft Marshmallow Cream
1/4 cup chopped maraschino cherries
1/2 cup shredded coconut (save 1/4 cup for the top)
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Mix together the above ingredients and shape into a ball or log. Roll in the shredded coconut, cover and refrigerate until chilled thoroughly. Serve with vanilla wafers, gingersnaps, shortbread, graham crackers or graham cracker sticks.

I have ever encountered.

To have or not to have, that is a question most brides are faced with and most every bride has their reason to have or not to have children participate or be present at their special occasion. Some brides have mixed feelings and aren't sure which direction to go. The choice is totally personal preference and there are many reasons for the decisions made, some don't want to share the spotlight with anyone that might get equal attention (and let's be honest, kids can be pretty darn cute), for others it's an added expense their budget can't sustain and for yet others they want their affair to be adult oriented. If you are leaning towards "to have" the main thing to remember is, kids are unpredictable, what they do or don't do at rehearsal isn't any indication of what they will do when it's showtime so you need to be willing to accept their spontaneity and embrace it as long as their behavior isn't heading down the path of disruption to the point of calamity. That's when plan "B" needs to be implemented. If you have a wedding planner or wedding director they are there not only to get you down the aisle, but to handle any situations that may arise and generally have plan "B" established in advance.

We'd like to share with you a few of our favorite "spontaneous" kids moments from some of our past weddings. We think they are priceless and hope you will enjoy them as much as we do.

Recipe for Fun

From mid November to January 1st, there are many occasions to celebrate a host of holidays. It's a time to get together with family and friends and reflect on memories of the past, rekindle and mend relationships and simply enjoy the company of one another. As the old year draws to an end and a new one is about to begin, we begin to reminisce, we become aware of how quickly time goes by and how important it is to make the most of each day and focus on the things that are the most valuable. So, we plan parties and get~togethers and luncheons and dinners and before you know it we've filled our plates so full that we're exhausted and too tired to enjoy the simple pleasures that we were trying so hard to embrace, we're stuffed with preparation and hustle bustle and have no room left for dessert or the sweetest part of our celebrations. We think our homes need to be decorated to the hilt and look like the cover of The Ultimate Southern Living Christmas Book and everything we serve must be made from scratch and served on Lenox, Royal Daulton or Vietri. Just to set the record straight, I'm not saying your home "Can't" look like the cover of The Ultimate Southern Living Christmas Book or that everything can't be made from scratch and served on fine china. I love The Ultimate Southern Living Christmas Books and glean a lot of inspiration from them, I have a set of Royal Daulton and much I make for gatherings is from scratch. Let me also say, I have been guilty of thinking everything has to follow those guidelines or it just isn't good enough. All of those perceptions are a fallacy, the most important thing is the fellowship enjoyed, them time you spend together, not the decoration, the food we eat or what we eat it on. If you are gathering together for the right reason, none of those things should matter, if they do, you've missed the reason for gathering together. So, I'm encouraging you invite someone over even if it's for a bag of lays and a carton of French Onion Dip and celebrate the season together. I know you and your guests will be glad you did, but in case you have the time and want to make some homemade goodies instead we'll be posting some simple and delicious recipes we hope you'll try and enjoy.

Garlic Feta Cheese Spread

4 oz Crumbled Feta Cheese

4 oz Cream Cheese (1/2 of an 8oz block) softened

1/3 cup mayonnaise

1 clove of garlic minced

1/4 teaspoon dried basil, crushed

1/4 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed

1/8 teaspoon dried dill weed

1/8 teaspoon dried thyme crushed

Fresh thyme or basil ~ optional

Assorted vegetables and crackers

In a food processor bowl or mixing bowl, combine feta, cream cheese, mayonnaise, garlic and dried herbs. Cover and process or beat with an electric mixer on medium speed till combined. Cover and chill until time to serve. If desired, garnish with fresh thyme or basil. Serve with assorted vegetables and crackers. Yields 1 1/2 cups

GO Green (and Red and Silver) The Recycled Wreath

Go Green! Recycle! We hear it every day, but just how much do we really do it? We live in a very disposable world and sometimes it seems like what's getting recycled is the packaging from the new stuff. We get rid of the old and get new without much contemplation. Granted, there are times when it's time for something to go, but often times an item could be shown a little TLC and tweaked and be better than new.

Now that we have 2 homes to decorate, I was contemplating making a new wreath (I always make my own instead of purchasing a pre-made) or purchasing some other sort of door decoration for the one in NC, but after looking around in my stock pile of "stuff" that wasn't being used I pulled out a very old sad looking little wreath and decided to give it a face lift. Why spend money when you don't need to? I did purchase new ribbon, but not for full price (it was 50% off). I removed all of the old trimmings, fluffed it and added the new ribbon and the old ornaments that were still in good condition. Within a few hours I had a gorgeous "new" wreath and a lot of fun in the process. I'm sure I can come up with a recycling idea for the old ornaments that aren't in such good shape.

Out with the old~In with the new

Why not look around and see what you have that could be tweaked and reused, invite some friends or family (or your spouse) to find items as well and get together for a make over party. The Christmas season is a time for celebrating, sharing, giving and spending time with loved ones and friends. It's all about making memories and spending quality time with those we love and care about. It doesn't have to be an elaborately planned affair and you don't need to spend a lot of money. No expensive holiday outfit is necessary, just come as you are. Put on some Christmas Carols to set the mood, open a bottle of wine and serve some fruit and cheese, make some homemade hot cocoa and bake or purchase gingerbread cookies, put on a pot of tea and bake a tray of scones, brew a pot of java (or sit out the Keurig) and serve assorted biscotti. And if you've already done your decorating, why not make over something for someone in need or alone this Christmas. With very little effort or money you can enjoy fellowship with family and friends and make some wonderful Christmas memories. Happy recycling!

9~11 a Reminder to Carpe diem

"What's in a name? Shakespeare said, "That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." The same goes for dates, What's in a date? Some dates have significant meanings to nations or groups because of happenings or celebrations that they are associated with. Ten years ago today September 11th or 9~11 as it is now referred to became a date of significance the world over. Before 1944, June 6th was the 157th day in a calendar year, someones birthday, anniversary, but in 1944, June 6th became D-Day and has been known as that for 67 years. Every year is filled with 365 or 366, empty pages. Every day that we are given is a gift to us to be enjoyed to the fullest because we have no guarantee of another one and 9~11 stands as a reminder to us of that. We should take advantage of every moment we're given and not plan on tomorrow, because tomorrow may never come. Every day we are given is a chance for us to write another page in a new chapter of our lives and on September 11, 2010, Bernadette and Chris did just that, wrote a new page in a brand new chapter of their lives.

A couple of years ago I received a call from Bernadette wanting to plan a September 2010 wedding. The only Saturday date we had available was the 11th. Like most people, she hesitated a bit, but talked to her fiance' Chris and they decided that September 11th would be just fine since they were a military couple and that date held a special meaning for them already as it did for most Americans and especially for those in the armed forces. So, the date was set and we started to work on planning their special day. They choose a beach house as their venue and invited their closest family and friends. Talented family and friends offered their time and service which added another special touch to their day. The wedding cake was baked by a friend in Fayetteville and transported very carefully to the beach, flowers were ordered in bulk and shipped to the beach house where a friend from work prepped the flowers and arranged the centerpieces and brides bouquet. Yours truly even got in on things and made the bridesmaids bouquets and Groom's and groomsmen's boutonnières. It was a busy day filled with lots of love and laughter and showers of blessings.....and showers of rain drops as well, but our happy couple and their guests didn't let a little rain get in the way of having a great time. The rain held off until the ceremony and photos were over, but started to come down right before the outdoor reception began. Plan B came into play and we moved all of the tables, chairs and DJ onto the covered porch and the party continued. There was not only singing in the rain, but dancing in the rain as well. Yes, everyone was on the dance floor (deck) dancing and singing in the rain to "Take Me Home Country Roads"! All in attendance were there to celebrate and weren't going to let anything rain on Bernadette and Chris' parade!
We want to wish Bernadette and Chris a very happy 1st anniversary and thank all of our military families for the sacrifices they make to ensure us Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

This year we have seen an increase in small intimate beach weddings with a few of them being only the Bride and Groom. There are many different reasons our couples have chosen to go this route, but whatever the reason, just because a wedding is small in size doesn't mean it's small in sentiment or style.

Weddings come in all shapes and sizes, just like people. No two are exactly the same although most include many of the same elements. The two most important elements are obviously a Bride and a Groom for without those two elements there would be no wedding. Too often couples overlook the most important part of a wedding, the ceremony and think only of the "Party" afterwards. The ceremony is the joining of two hearts, to lives, two people as one, it's the establishing of a brand new family and the beginning of a new life together filled with blank pages on which to write their own unique story. It's the start of their "Happily Ever After". The "Party" is a celebration of the uniting of the two as one and it is indeed something to celebrate! So whether the celebration is a gathering of two with a cake and a bottle of champagne or one hundred and two, an 8 piece band and an elaborate meal, the merriment is just as joyful.

Our small, intimate wedding couples have come to us just like any other couples wanting their special day to be just that, special and to reflect their personalities. We have had so much fun planning and designing with each of them and would like to share a few of them with you. We hope you'll enjoy them as much as we did.

Christmas In July

With temperatures reaching record highs I thought thinking about cooler temperatures might make it a bit more tolerable so I decided to highlight our last wedding of the 2010 season.
Maria and James were introduced by a mutual friend and developed a close friendship for several years before their friendship turned to romance. Even before the question had been asked or the answer given, Maria knew she wanted a winter wedding and knew she and James would be sharing their anniversary with her parents, Lois and John, who were married on the same day 33 years earlier. Maria's December 18th wedding celebration was filled with Southern charm and elegance and befitting of her genteel manner and personality. Both the church and reception venue were already adorned with gorgeous Christmas decor which was another reason for choosing the date only 1 week before Christmas. Wanting to take advantage of the beautiful decor as well as celebrate the Season Maria purchased a variety of sparkling silver Christmas ornaments which were displayed on 2 trees at their reception and served as thank you gifts for their guests. In addition to the embellished tannenbaums that graced every corner and grand foyer, the noble Palmetto, South Carolina's state symbol, would also have it's place of eminence. Pawleys Island, South Carolina has provided Maria and her family a treasure chest of happy memories and another reason Maria and James chose to begin their Happily Ever After in The Palmetto State. It was a day of enchantment for all and filled with many memories to place in the Madden treasure chest to be relived over and over.

A Pink Cadillac was chosen not only to carry Maria's pink and green color scheme, but to support Breast Cancer awareness and research.

Guests got to choose their favorite ornament as a thank you from Maria and James.

Sabal Palmetto known for it's strong root system, flexible trunk and ability to withstand fierce storms is a perfect symbol of Maria and James' commitment and dedication to one another was the main element of their wedding cake and Groom and Groomsmen's tie and bow ties.

After seeing another Grand Occasion bride's "GRIT" send off knew she wanted to use the traditional Southern staple not only to represent abundance and prosperity, but because she thought it looked like snow! And besides, what could be more Southern than grits?

Elopement!

  Elopement!  Secretly running away with one's beloved with the intention of getting married is romantic and exciting. Just the sound of the word itself conjures up visions of Romeo and Juliet.

On January 10,2010, I received an email from Jacobi, it read:
   I need help planning an elopement. We are looking for something simple on the beach. We would like some sort of simple decorations on the beach. We like the sand cermony as well. We also need a photographer. I don't have a particular date in mind, I was hoping your could help with the date, maybe August or September. Any day of the week is fine, we just want a nice intimate wedding on the beach. The time of the wedding and all the other details you can pick. We just wanna show up and be surprised :)
  Jacobi and I began to communicate regularly and it wasn't long before I started to get a feel for their personalities and began pulling together ideas for their special day. I learned that Jacobi adores butterflies and Michael is obsessed with Jordan shoes and that he had even purchased a special pair of Jordan's for their wedding. Always looking for ways to incorporate each couples unique personalities and interests into their wedding so that it is a reflection of them, we took those two elements and had quite possibly the cutest cake I have ever seen, designed for their wedding. And to add more personality and meaning to their ceremony the bride and groom choose to write their own vows. As things started to fall into place the excited couple shared their plans for elopement with their families who were very excited for Jacobi and Michael, but disappointed that they wouldn't be there to celebrate with them. So what had originally been planned as an elopement quickly turned into a Destination Wedding! With the addition of guests we also added chairs and cupcakes for them to enjoy. While Jacobi and Michael's "Elopement" turned into a destination wedding with family and friends in attendance and not just a bride and groom, it turned out to be exactly what they had wanted from the beginning, romantic, exciting and intimate.

SAY YES to THE BEST.....Dress Contest

Our 2010 season began on March 12th with a rehearsal dinner at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club and ended on December 18th with two gorgeous events, a wedding at DeBordieu Colony and a Silver Wedding Anniversary celebration at Pine Lakes Country Club. All of our forty plus weddings of the season had their own unique style and personality, but they all had one thing in common, a dress, and in some cases two!

To kick off our 2011 season, Grand Occasions Inc. is sponsoring a SAY YES to THE BEST.....Dress contest, showcasing the gowns of our 2010 brides. Every dress was absolutely stunning and perfect for the bride who selected and wore it, but only one can hold the title of Grand Occasions BEST Dress of 2010 and it's up to you to decide who the winner will be. Finalists have been chosen by a panel of judges and have been posted in albums on our Grand Occasions Inc. Facebook page.

Some of our brides had been dreaming of the perfect dress since they were very young and knew exactly what it would look like, others hadn't really given it a lot of thought until they said "I will". Either way they all embarked on a mission to find their perfect dress and say " YES....THIS IS THE DRESS" ! They all successfully accomplished their quest! Now it's time for you to embark on a mission and help choose "THE BEST" Dress of our 2010 season and say "YES, THIS IS THE BEST"! Everyone is eligible to vote (one vote per person please). Short Notice Success!

In the 20 plus years I've been planning weddings and events I've worked on many short notice weddings, but none as short notice as Les and Carrie's 2 week notice wedding. I didn't have time to wait a week to get a signed contract and payment so I had to trust that everything would fall into place and begin working immediately if I was to accomplish the task at hand. I didn't want to just accomplish the task, I wanted to make their special day just as wonderful as if we'd worked on it for months. I was extremely lucky to find that some of my very best vendors were available for their date. Before long I had a team of the very best working with me to make their special day the very best it could be.

Fifty of their closest family members and friends made the trip to Myrtle Beach to celebrate with the happy couple. They were serenaded by the beautiful sound of the steel drums that seemed to keep harmony with the waves and that combined with delicious food, great dinner and dance music and a gorgeous full moon and moonlight that danced off the waves made for a Grand Occasion indeed. In just two short weeks we successfully pulled together one of the nicest ceremonies and reception I have every coordinated. One of the main reasons we were so successful, besides being extremely lucky that some of my top vendors happened to have availability, was the trust and confidence the bride and mother of the bride put in Grand Occasions Inc. Thank you Carrie and Jolete for putting your trust in me, you were a joy to work with!

Introducing Chopper

Wedding season has officially begun here in Myrtle Beach. This weekend I will have my 5th event of the season. Last weekend, however I had my first of the year, a doggie ring bearer. I would like to introduce you to Chopper, the English Bulldog who proudly carried her mommy and daddy's rings down the isle dressed in her doggie finery that coordinated with the bridesmaids attire. Chopper took her job very seriously and was one of the most well behaved ring bearers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Way to go Chopper, let's hope the other 3 doggie ring bearers we'll have this year do as great a job as you did!

Stunning & Savory

After being contracted by the parents of the groom to help plan and coordinate the rehearsal dinner in honor of Justin and Lisa, we began to explore options for centerpieces besides the usual flowers or candles. Having decided to include everyone on the guest list and not just the wedding party, we would have nearly 20 tables to decorate and 20 centerpieces to do something with after the dinner was over. Since the theme and design would be completely different than the wedding nothing could really be re-used. We wanted a centerpiece that not only looked beautiful, but was also practical. So, after much thought decided to let the dessert serve double duty. The result was not only practical, it was stunning, savory, and made for great conversation.

Caly Warner, Carolina Bride~Myrtle Beach Cover Bride Winter Issue 2010

When it came to booking a venue for Caly and Jason's wedding there was never any doubt. Live Oak Allee at Brookgreen Gardens, lined with 250 year old live oak trees was the perfect setting for her Southern storybook wedding. From beginning to end Caly and Jason's wedding was filled with Southern Charm and elegance, but with a contemporary twist. Her attendants dresses weren't the typical bridesmaids gowns, but cotton sundresses in shades of blue, ivory and black that resembled a watercolor painting and something that wouldn't just hang in a closet after the wedding was over, but would be worn over and over again. Her bouquets weren't typical either. They were compiled of cymbidium orchids, dendrobium orchids, yellow Billy balls, blue thistle, kangaroo paw, seeded eucalyptus and wrapped in tropical leaves and coiled copper wire. The vintage birdcage style veil on the top of her head to her feet adorned with electric cobalt blue shoes was a vision of Southern elegance, romance and originality. Caly's stunning asymmetric mermaid gown was mimicked in her one of a kind wedding cake created by Incredible Edibles of Pawley's Island. A blending of traditional Southern elements and a portion of contemporary flare produced a wedding filled with originality, fun and memories for years to come.

Sand dollar cookies dipped in chocolate with a copy of the legend of the sand dollar was the sweet treat Deana and Will choose to carry the beach theme to their reception.

Customized M & M's were printed with the couples names, wedding date and their faces.

Candy buffet with assorted sweet confections on display at the Fall Bridal Show gives brides an option for wedding favors.

Brides are almost always in a quandary over what to give guests as a wedding favor to show appreciation to their guests for sharing their special day with them. So many times favors get left behind and then the bride and groom are "stuck" with a truck load of things they aren't sure what to do with. Even when the favors are taken many times guests find themselves in the same delima.....what to do with them. Many a wedding favor has been re-gifted, thrown away or stuck in a drawer never to be seen again or at least not for quite some time. Maybe there is a particular sweet treat that your area is known for. Another food favor idea that is very popular is a candy buffet. Jars, bowls and trays in interesting shapes and sizes filled with assorted candy confections allow guests to have a choice of their favorites and add an element of interaction for your guests as they fill their own favor bag of candy from a five and dime type display. The display also adds interest and a design element to your reception area. Cookies in a variety of shapes and sizes in cellophane bags and tied with colorful ribbons are not only delicious, but help to carry a theme through out the whole wedding. Just because your budget isn't grand doesn't mean your wedding can't be. Why not consider a small, intimate wedding on the beach surrounded by your immediate family. That's what Lynette and Michael decided to do. After scheduling their family vacation in Myrtle Beach for July, they decided it would be the perfect time to say I do. Their ceremony was followed by a cake cutting and toast on the beach then off to a local restaurant for a nice dinner. A larger reception was planned once they returned to Ohio.

It was a blue Saturday for Bethany & George, but the only tears were tears of joy as the happy couple said I DO on the beach with the blue Atlantic as their backdrop. Bethany's love of femininity and Georges love for golf were combined to create a beautiful and whimsical wedding theme for their blue wedding. Under a cloudless blue sky and surrounded by a warm ocean breeze guests celebrated with a couple that was made fore each other!

Instead of glass beads, golf balls were used in the centerpieces to incorporate the grooms love of the sport and reflect his personality. Submersible lights provided additional illumination after the sun set.

Refreshing "Blue Hope" signature drinks continued the blue theme and were named in honor of the bride whose middle name is Hope.

Always time for another round of golf....even on your wedding day.

Cupcakes provided a variety of options for the guests.

Sparklers lit up the night sky in congratulations to a couple who are a perfect match while solid white chocolate golf balls and milk chocolate putters and golf bags along with personalized tees made par-fect favors.

Marriage License Requirements In South Carolina

Destination Weddings are a fast growing trend and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina has become a very popular Destination Wedding venue. Whether you are envisioning a small intimate gathering or a grand affair, no matter what your style or budget there is one thing that is a necessity for every bride and groom. A marriage license. Obtaining a marriage license in South Carolina is a simple process and most everything can be done on line and through the mail. Below you will find information on obtaining your license, license fees and a link to the Horry County Probate Court (posted on the sidebar) where you may print out a Marriage License Application Form and instructions for submitting your application.

MARRIAGE LICENSES

To the full extent permitted by the Constitution, the Probate Court has exclusive original jurisdiction over all subject matter related to the issuance of marriage licenses; record, index, and dispose of copies of marriage certificates; and issue certified copies of the license and certificates.

It is unlawful for any persons to contract matrimony, i.e. marry, within this State without first obtaining a marriage license from the Probate Court.

The Probate Court may issue a marriage license upon: (a) the filing of the marriage application, (b) the lapse of at least twenty-four hours thereafter, (c) the payment of the fee, (d) and the filing of a statement, under oath or affirmation, to the effect that the persons seeking the contract of matrimony are legally entitled to marry, together with the full names of the persons, their ages and places of residence.

Only ministers of the Gospel or accepted Jewish rabbis and officers authorized to administer oaths in this State are authorized to administer a marriage ceremony in this State.

Marriage Licenses are public record and are open to the public during regular business hours from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Hawaii Five-O Birthday Theme

We all have many occasions to celebrate, one being milestone birthdays. For some unknown reason people seem to choose this time for celebrating in a less than optimistic way. Seems like the ages followed by an "O" are always Oh No's! Oh No, your 3-0, Oh No-it's the big 4-0, 5-0 and on and on we go!!! Maybe we should change it to 3-0 Way to Go, 4-0 Cheerio or Hawaii 5-0!! We should look forward to them with anticipation not dismay. It's a brand new year, a brand new chapter of your story full of pages just waiting to be filled with new adventures and new memories to make. It's a chance to do all or some of things you've always wanted to do, begin a new hobby, take a class, travel to some place you've never been or just enjoy all the simple pleasures that bring you joy. So, the next time you have an "O" birthday celebration to plan or celebrate, do it with excitement, enthusiasm, originality, gusto and remember........age is just a number, with age comes wisdom, like fine wine you get better with age, you aren't getting older, you're getting better. Keep in mind that just because you are getting older doesn't mean you are getting old, you're as old as you feel or think you are. When friends say, "we're getting old" I quickly tell them, "you can be old if you want to, but I prefer to think of myself as vintage". Vintage is quite in vogue these days. Webster's defines vintage as being characterized by excellence and lasting popularity. Representative of the best. Aging is a natural process and birthdays, no matter what the number, are something to celebrate!

Having worked with numerous couples and individuals for over 25 years in planning and consulting a variety of weddings and events, I know that no two are exactly alike. Each event has been as unique as the individual or individuals it was planned for as it should be. Your wedding day should be everything you've ever dreamed of. It should reflect your personality, style and family traditions. Gone are they days of cookie cutter weddings where nothing much changed except the color scheme. There was one kind of wedding cake, white (vanilla) and your basic reception menu was wedding cake, nuts, mints and punch. Today's weddings are full of flair, color, style and originality. Your only limitation is your imagination and of course your budget. You and your guests should still observe basic wedding etiquette and manners as you don't want your special day to become a free for all, but not so steeped in formality that they are boring, uninviting or stiff. From a small intimate gathering to the grandest affair your wedding day should be fun and enjoyable not only for you, but your guests as well. Your family and friends have come to celebrate with you and should feel welcome and comfortable. If they do your celebration is sure to be a day of rejoicing, festivity and memory making that will last a lifetime. You've waited a long time for this day so savor and enjoy every minute of it. A former bride of mine decided to add an element of interest in an unexpected way. She went with the theme of " A Night of Romance and Dancing Under the Stars"! Instead of a traditional wedding cake she opted for an ice sculpture of a wedding cake with the top tier being an actual cake which she and the groom cut. Guests were served elegant cupcakes of their choice of two different flavors. The "Ice Cake" was displayed atop a mirrored light box which projected light through the cake and added yet another element of romance. So, put on your thinking caps and let your imagination run wild. The sky's the limit.

If you've been stopping by hoping to find a helpful hint or some useful information and found nothing new, there is a very good reason. It isn't because I don't have plenty of tips and advice to share with you it's because we were having a celebration of our own and it truly has been GRAND!! Our precious grand-daughter decided to make her debut 3 weeks early. She was born at 3:11 p.m. Thursday, January 22 instead of her expected arrival date of February 10th. We are so very thankful for her safe arrival and happy that she is here. Mother, father and baby are all doing well and plan to go home from the hospital sometime today. It was definately a moment that took our breath away and we are looking forward to making many memories that last a lifetime. Please keep visiting I will have new tips soon. He's just popped the question and you said Yes! You're on cloud 9. Once your head has stopped spinning and you've returned to earth you realize you are engaged! Almost as quickly as you said yes the wheels begin to turn. There are a million things running through your mind. We need to pick a date, select a venue, compile a guest list, choose attendants, find the perfect dress, what flavor cake, what style or theme, color and decor, indoor or outdoor, d.j., band or other live music, photographer, videographer, plated, buffet or hors d'oeuvres reception and the list goes on and on and on. Before you've even had a chance to announce your engagement you're exhausted with just the thought of all you have to do. RELAX! Take a deep breath and enjoy your engagement. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day and your wedding plans don't have to be completed in one either. You have as much time as you want to plan your special day and make it everything you've ever imagined it to be. Whether you decide to do all the planning your self or hire a professional to assist you, the entire process from beginning to end should be fun and exciting. Allow yourself enough time to feasibly put together the wedding you are envisioning. This will reduce stress and give you a greater selection of vendors to choose from. Prioritize and take it a step at a time. Visit your local bookstore and purchase a Wedding Planner or get a 3 ring binder and make your own using free printables available on the Internet. There are a variety of sites that allow you to print worksheets from their sites. Now would be a good time to objectively look at how much time you have to invest in the planning and coordinating process. If you are a bride who is a full-time student, a professional or who has other constraints that limit the amount of time you can invest in planning your wedding, you might want to consider hiring a Wedding Planner who can guide and direct you each step of the way. Maybe you have some time to spend on coordinating and planning, but would like help in locating and securing venues and vendors, suggestions on getting the most for your money, ceremony or reception design, negotiating contracts or other areas. Many wedding planners offer partial planning packages that allow you to do most of the planning yourself, but offer assistance when and where you need it. Maybe you have plenty of time and people to help you in the planning and coordinating process, but you would like for your friends and family to be "guests" at your wedding and not be working the day of. A day of/weekend of package might be something for you to consider. Which ever direction you choose to go remember to have fun in the process. It's your special day and it should be the very best it can be.
